Have you ever wondered as a GUC engineering student where did all the graduated classes of engineering do after graduation ??!! did they work abroad or here in Egypt? did they pursue an academic career? was it at the GUC or at another university ? , or did they work at a multinational company ?? what are the chances out there for a GUC engineering graduate? what are the courses we should take to enhance our capabilities??!!!!
All these questions start in your head the moment you step into the university and apply for the Engineering Faculty. let's not be kidding ourselves , many people just don't care about anything but the fact that they can actually find a job after they graduate . This year I created a group called GUC newcomers winter 2013 for the GUC newcomers to gather and ask all the questions they need to know about the university and you know what was the most repeated question I heard or received via messages or on the group wall?! ; what are my working chances after I graduate? .
People focus on what their career will be after graduation and that's what really matters when the dust settles at the end . So I asked my self a question , what is the solution ?, and that's when some of my colleagues at the Pharmacy faculty gave me this amazing idea they already did; a GUC Faculty of Engineering Alumni Community which can be started as a Facebook group and then maybe make it an official website linked to the GUC website. I got to say the idea was amazing when I heard it.
That's when I created the group https://www.facebook.com/groups/186173971570515/ I had the idea that I can allow all the GUC alumni to be connected together to share their success stories to give each other hints about jobs and job interviews and to aid each other because at the end we all come from the same University which brings us to the fact that we all have been through the same process from the point when we first applied at the GUC till we graduated.
Some people will ask me why would you do such a thing and what benefit can it bring , well I can talk a lot about what benefit it can bring or I can just state the description of the group which I think is more than enough to make you all understand why I made this group
This group is integrated with Faculty of Engineering Alumni and
The objectives of this committee
1.To open communication channel with GUC Engineering alumni
2.To link the Alumni to Faculty of Engineering.
3.To link Alumni Colleagues to each other.
4.To know the Alumni opinion regarding their needs to compete nationally and internationally.
5.To offer the Alumni post graduate training or study courses as a continuous education when available.
6.To offer the alumni advising (when needed) regarding their current and future career plan.
7.To help Alumni to join Master or Ph.D programs through helping them regarding to recommendations and needed documents.
Some of you may not see it but what we are actually try to do here is not just to create a community to be allow Alumni to communicate with each other , NO we are actually trying to build something much much bigger than that , we are trying to prove that students who graduated from the GUC Engineering Faculty have succeeded in their life , career and we want you to share your success story in order to help others find success and find the motivation to succeed
The idea is not just about alumni but also about undergraduate students who are still asking the same questions and not finding answers , think about how they would feel if some alumni from their department came and made a lecture about how his studies helped him in his line of work or how did the experience he gained from the University allowed him to succeed in his career , if such thing was done while I was student it would have given me lots of motivation.
The bottom line here is that it is not just about you , it is about all who can benefit from your cooperation to establish such community.
